Upload & encoding

File limits, the streaming qualities your video gets, and how to replace, re-encode or copy a video.

Updated

Upload a video and vitelnk prepares it to play smoothly on any connection. This page covers which files you can upload, the streaming qualities, and how to replace, re-encode or copy a video.

Upload a video

Where to find it
  1. In the sidebar, click Upload Video (or Upload Video at the top of your dashboard)
  2. Drop a file on the box, or click Select Video File
  3. Add a title, then click Upload now, or go through Share Link and Button (optional) first
LimitWhat it is
FormatsMP4, MOV and WebM.
File sizeUp to 10 GB per file.
ResolutionUp to 4K, on every plan and during the trial.
How manyUnlimited on paid plans. 3 videos during the 14-day trial. With credit packs, 1 credit per video, used when processing finishes.
StorageDepends on your plan: see Plans & billing.
💡 Processing runs in the background: you can close the window or start the next upload. The video card shows the progress.

Choose the streaming qualities

Where to find it
  1. Click Upload Video
  2. Open Encoding Options and pick the streaming qualities before it starts
They show once you pick a file.
SettingWhat it does
Quality tiersPick up to 2: 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K. Each one is a full encode, so more qualities take longer.
Encoding speedFast (less waiting, slightly larger files), Balanced, or Best Quality (smaller files, up to 4× longer).
Skip HLS encodingThe video is ready straight away and plays as the file you uploaded. You can encode it later.
During the 14-day trial videos play as the file you uploaded; the qualities apply once your plan starts.

How adaptive streaming works

The player picks the best quality for each viewer's connection and switches as it changes, so a viewer on a slow connection gets a smaller picture instead of buffering. Video cards show Adaptive once it's ready. Big 4K files take the longest; the card shows the progress.

Encode a video you skipped, or re-encode it

Where to find it
  1. Open your Dashboard
  2. On the video, click
  3. In the Settings tab, scroll to Adaptive Streaming
A video that is already encoded shows its qualities here.
ButtonWhat it does
Encode NowFor a video that skipped encoding: makes the streaming qualities now.
Add a 1080p fallbackFor a 4K original: adds a 1080p copy so slow connections don't buffer.
Cancel & RestartWhile encoding: start again, for example with other qualities.
Retry HLS EncodingIf encoding failed.
Re-encoding starts when your plan starts (not during the trial).

Replace the video file

Where to find it
  1. Open your Dashboard
  2. On the video, click
  3. In the Settings tab, use Replace Video (Optional)

Upload a new file to replace the current one, for example a corrected edit. It stays the same video, so its share links, Rooms, CTA and analytics keep working. A replacement never counts toward the trial's 3 videos.

Copy a video (duplicate)

Where to find it
  1. Open your Dashboard
  2. On the video card, click
  3. Click Duplicate

The copy gets the same settings and is named "(Copy)". Use it to try other settings, or to start a new version, without touching the links you already sent. Duplicating starts when your plan starts (not during the trial).
