1.
Choose your resolution
Select the output resolution — 4K UHD, 2K QHD, 1080p, 720p, or 480p. The calculator loads recommended bitrate ranges for that resolution.
2.
Select your use case
Choose streaming (YouTube, vitelnk), social upload (Instagram, TikTok), or local export. Each context has different quality-to-size trade-offs.
3.
Read the recommended bitrate
You'll see a recommended Mbps value plus a min–max range. Use the recommended value for most projects, or go higher for archival masters.
4.
Apply it in your encoder
Enter the bitrate in your NLE export settings or FFmpeg command. For variable bitrate (VBR) encoding, use the recommended value as your target bitrate.
Why This Matters for Video Creators
Using the wrong bitrate is the most common cause of poor video quality or unnecessarily large files. Too low and you get compression artefacts in motion-heavy scenes; too high and you waste storage and slow down uploads. For vitelnk users, encoding at 8–10 Mbps for 1080p gives viewers excellent quality while keeping upload times short — and our adaptive HLS streaming optimises delivery further based on each viewer's connection speed.
